What a wonderful essay! I had a once-a-month tea lesson at my Japanese school when I was a young teen. I’ve forgotten all the little steps but I remembered them as I looked at these photos. I didn’t know that tea ceremony had declined in popularity in Japan, I assumed that since I had learned it, it was something all young people had some connection to. But now that I think of it, my Japanese school teachers were quite elderly.
